Two foreign women trekkers rescued safely from Mount Chaukhambha-III
SDRF conducted an extensive search operation when 02 foreign trekkers went missing during trekking on Mount Chaukhambha-III in Chamoli district. In the initial phase, aerial search was done with the help of helicopter on 05 October 2024, but due to the challenges of inaccessible terrain, a team of 04 SDRF personnel was landed by helicopter at Advance Base Camp (4900 meters). From this morning itself, the SDRF team had started the search operation on foot in the most difficult and risky parts of the trek.
Inspector General of Police, SDRF, Smt. Ridhim Agarwal said, “The SDRF team is carrying out the rescue operation with full dedication and readiness even in extremely difficult conditions. Despite the challenges of lack of oxygen at high altitude and inaccessible routes, our team has started the search operation. Our top priority is to rescue the missing trekkers safely, and every possible effort is being made for this.
In the same sequence, the Indian Army Rescue Team, engaged in a parallel search operation of the SDRF rescue team, while reconnaissance on the trek through chopper, found both the trekkers and airlifted them to Joshimath helipad with the help of chopper. Both the trekkers are safe and sound. Commander, SDRF, Shri Arpan Yaduvanshi informed that the SDRF team which was searching ahead of the Advance Base Camp is also being brought to Joshimath by Army chopper.
