AIIMS receives award for outstanding sales of Jan Aushadhi medicine

AIIMS Rishikesh was awarded for its outstanding contribution to the sale of medicines through Jan Aushadhi Centres under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). The award was presented by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda during a ceremony held in Delhi yesterday.

During the 8th Jan Aushadhi Diwas Samman Samaroh held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the best-performing Jan Aushadhi Centres and health institutions from various states were honored for promoting affordable healthcare through the scheme. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda presented the awards to the winners. During the event, Union Minister J.P. Nadda interacted with beneficiaries of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme. They shared with him how affordable generic medicines have helped reduce the financial burden of healthcare.

During the event, Prof. Meenu Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Rishikesh, spoke about the institute’s efforts to raise awareness about generic medicines. She stated that many people are under the misconception that these medicines are less effective because they are inexpensive. However, this is simply a misconception. People have benefited greatly from these medicines at over 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country. Prof. Meenu highlighted the need to develop a digital network to ensure adequate availability of these medicines. She described how AIIMS Rishikesh is delivering these medicines to remote areas of Uttarakhand through drone medical services. She emphasized that these medicines are not only affordable and quality-oriented but also accessible and affordable to ordinary families.

It was stated during the program that the government is committed to expanding the reach of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMJAY), which aims to provide quality medicines at affordable prices through a nationwide network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras. On this occasion, Prof. Puneet Dhamija, pharmacologist in charge of the Jan Aushadhi Centre at AIIMS Rishikesh, was also present.
