Under the direction of District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria, the Food and Civil Supplies Department is conducting a comprehensive inspection drive across the district to curb the illegal storage, hoarding, and black marketing of sugar. As part of this campaign, 11 departmental teams carried out surprise inspections of food shops in various towns and rural markets, checking sugar stocks and availability.

District Supply Officer Arun Kumar Verma stated that, following the District Magistrate’s instructions, departmental teams inspected food shops in the markets of Kotdwar, Pauri, Srinagar, Pabo, Lansdowne, Satpuli, Laxmanjhula, Chaubattakhal, Rikhnikhal, Dugadda, and Uphrainkhal. During these inspections, shopkeepers were instructed to adhere to prescribed regulations and avoid the unnecessary stockpiling of sugar. They were also warned that strict action, in accordance with the law, would be taken against anyone found involved in black marketing or illegal sales.

The District Supply Officer stated that the department is maintaining continuous surveillance of markets to ensure the adequate availability of essential food items for consumers. Regular and surprise inspection drives will continue in the future. He clarified that strict action, as per regulations, would be taken against any trader found engaging in the illegal storage, hoarding, or black marketing of sugar.
