 Youth Drowns in River Ganga; SDRF Recovers Body

Today, on April 15, 2026, at approximately 02:34 PM, information was received from the Laxman Jhula Police Station stating that an individual had drowned while bathing in the Ganges River near Mastram Ghat.
Acting upon this information, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team from Dhallwala immediately departed for the scene of the incident, equipped with the necessary rescue gear.
Upon reaching the site, the team took swift action and initiated a search operation utilizing scuba diving equipment. During the search, deep diver Pradeep Rawat descended to a depth of approximately 20 feet in the Ganges River and successfully recovered the body of the deceased individual.
The recovered individual was identified as Suraj Singh, son of Shri Madhav Singh, aged approximately 25 years, a resident of Patti Baurmala, Bhaunkhal, District Almora (Uttarakhand). His two companions stated that the young man worked as a chef at a nearby hotel and had drowned while bathing.
The body has been handed over to the District Police for necessary legal formalities.
