AYUSH Department Organizes Cleanliness Drive at Ganga Ghats Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti
Muni Ki Reti, Tehri Garhwal | September 30, 2025:
As part of the programs leading up to Gandhi Jayanti, the AYUSH Department today organized a cleanliness drive along the Ganga Ghats in Muni Ki Reti, Tehri Garhwal. The initiative, which covered the stretch from Shatrughan Ghat to Janaki Setu, was carried out by the officers and staff of the Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Muni Ki Reti.
The drive was held in the presence of Dr. Subhash Chandra, District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer, and Dr. Anand Srivastava, Nodal Officer, AYUSH Mission. Local social workers and foreign tourists also joined hands in the effort, promoting a message of shared responsibility towards environmental and public health.
Highlighting the connection between cleanliness and health, Dr. Subhash Chandra noted that such initiatives are being carried out across all district hospitals under the direction of the Ministry of AYUSH. He urged all visitors to help maintain the sanctity and purity of the Ganga, stating, “A clean environment is essential for a healthy society.”
Dr. Anand Srivastava shared that from September 17 to October 2, the department is also conducting various outreach programs like the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, focusing on rural health awareness, especially for women and adolescent girls. These include free health camps, and education on nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and psychophysical changes during adolescence.
Key participants included senior medical officer Dr. Atol Singh Rana, Dr. Vivek Kumar, Dr. Shobha Rani, Dr. Priyanka, Yoga instructor Dr. Rakesh Semwal, Mr. Rakesh Maithani, Mr. Subhash Gaur, Mr. Mahendra Negi, Mrs. Usha Joshi, Mrs. Preeti Semwal, Mr. Sandeep, Mrs. Sushma, Mr. Kunwar Singh Negi, and sanitation worker Mr. Rajiv, among others.
The event served as a meaningful reminder of Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of “Cleanliness is next to godliness”, and reinforced the AYUSH Department’s commitment to holistic health and hygiene.
