A five-day hands-on workshop on ‘Molecular Diagnostics for Pathologists’ has commenced at AIIMS Rishikesh. Over the next five days, pathologists and postgraduate participants will receive advanced training in molecular diagnostic techniques.
Inaugurating the workshop—organized jointly by the institute’s Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine—AIIMS Rishikesh Executive Director Prof. Meenu Singh emphasized the importance of personalized medicine and highlighted the pivotal role of molecular diagnostics in enhancing patient care. Dean (Academics) Prof. Saurabh Varshney elaborated on the shift from traditional morphology-based pathology diagnosis to molecular diagnostics. Dean (Research) Prof. Shailendra S. Handu discussed the growing significance of research-based innovation and commended such events for their role in strengthening molecular diagnostic capabilities.
The first day’s proceedings were also addressed by Prof. Sanjeev Kishore (Head, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine); Dr. Prashant Joshi (Resource Faculty and Associate Professor, AIIMS Mangalagiri); Prof. Shalini Rao (Senior Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine); Dr. Priyavadhana B. (Associate Professor); and Prof. Nilotpal Chowdhury (Nodal Officer, MRU). Through various sessions, the speakers encouraged participants to actively engage in the hands-on training and shared valuable technical and practical insights. It was stated that the workshop is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in modern molecular diagnostic techniques, reflecting AIIMS Rishikesh’s commitment to advancing medical education, research, and patient care. In addition to doctors from the department, a large number of the institute’s pathologists and technical staff attended the workshop.
