A Step Towards a Clean Tapovan — Nagar Panchayat Doubles Sanitation Fees; Effective April 23
With a resolve to keep Tapovan clean, tidy, and beautiful, the Tapovan Nagar Panchayat has implemented a new fee schedule for waste collection services within the area. The previously applicable charges have been nearly doubled, and these regulations come into effect on April 23, 2026.
Monthly Fees for Residential and Commercial Categories:
The monthly fee has been fixed at ₹30 for BPL (Below Poverty Line) families, ₹50 for general households, and ₹100 for flats.
Hotels and Homestays:
1 to 6 beds: ₹700 | 7 to 10 beds: ₹1,200 | 10 to 20 beds: ₹2,500 | 31 to 40 beds: ₹7,000 — and for establishments with more than 40 beds, an additional ₹250 will be payable per extra bed.
Restaurants: Ranging from ₹350 to ₹1,200, based on seating capacity. For establishments with more than 60 seats, an additional ₹25 will be charged per seat.
Shops: Small shops ₹250 | Large shops ₹1,500 | Malls or multi-storied establishments: up to ₹3,000.
Others: Schools ₹1,000–₹1,500 | Hospitals ₹5,000–₹8,000 | Banks/Offices ₹500–₹1,000.
Special Tourist Sanitation Fee (Point 25):
Under a significant provision, tourists staying in hotels within the Nagar Panchayat’s jurisdiction will be required to pay 10% of their room rent per day as a sanitation fee. This measure represents a meaningful initiative aimed at managing the additional waste generated by tourism activities.
Penalty for Late Payment: A 10% Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) will be levied if payment is not made within 30 days of the issuance of the demand notice. In the case of manual waste collection, a separate fee ranging from ₹500 to ₹5,000 per month will be applicable, while for construction and demolition debris, a fee ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹4,000 will be payable.
The Nagar Panchayat has appealed to everyone to deposit their fees on time and to cooperate in empowering the Panchayat.
