Tehri Development Authority took action on 4 illegal constructions in Rishikesh, sealing is also happening at a slow pace in Tapovan

Rishikesh, 29 August 2023: Tehri Development Authority (TDA) has sealed 4 constructions in Rishikesh while running a campaign against illegal constructions. Two of these are located in Tapovan area, one in Kharasrot and one in Shishamjhadi.

However, the number of illegal constructions in the Tapovan area is quite high, due to which there is anger among the local people. They allege that the TDA is taking action at a slow pace in this area.

The sealed constructions include a 7-storey building of Akash Verma and Suman Jain, residents of Tapovan, a building being built by Veerpal on the Kharasrot river and Anita Dhiman’s building in Shishamjhadi.

Locals’ resentment:

Residents of Tapovan say that the number of illegal constructions in their area has increased significantly in the last few years. Many of these buildings are high-rise and multi-storey, which can pose a threat to the geological structure of the area.

They also allege that the TDA has failed to stop these illegal constructions, and when action is taken, it is only in select cases.

TDA says:

TDA Assistant Engineer Digvijay Tiwari said that the department is committed to taking action against illegal constructions. He said that illegal constructions are being continuously identified and action is being taken against them.

He said that so far 4 illegal constructions have been sealed and action will continue in future.

Conclusion:

It is true that the problem of illegal constructions is serious in Rishikesh, especially in the Tapovan area. TDA will have to take more strict steps to deal with this problem.  Local people should also raise their voice against illegal constructions and extend their cooperation to TDA.
